Day 1: Cairo
Arrival at Cairo airport, assistance during entry visa
formalities. Transfer and overnight in the hotel in Cairo.
Day 2: Cairo - Bahariya Oasis
After breakfast we leave Cairo behind, we start a 370-km on
road to Bahariya Oasis. Upon reaching Bahariya, we check in at
the Hotel, tour The city, have lunch. Later we visit the temple
of Alexander the great, tombs of the Nobles and the English
mountain. Dinner and overnight at bahariya Hotel.
Day 3: Bahariya - White Desert
In the morning, departure by jeep 4X4 to the White Desert.
Vist of the Black desert and the dune area. We start our climb
of a 50meter dune. Lunch in El Heiz Oasis. On the route to
Farafra we visit the Crystal Mountain, the area of the wonders
with the desert roses. We visit El Akabat and then we head to
the White Desert. We start exploring the formations and wind
carved sculptor. Then the New Desert. In the evening, we have a
barbeque dinner and sleep in tents under the stars...
Day 4: White Desert - Ain Dalla
After breakfast we set out on our way to Ain Dalla, the last
waterhole before the Great Sand Sea and famous from antiquity to
the present day. We pass great rock formations as we head off
into the Great Sand Sea and make our desert camps.
Day 5: Ain Dalla - The Gilf
A wonderful day of dunes and open vistas as we wend our way
westwards to the open hills that lead us into the Gilf Kebir.
This extraordinary land mass rears up from its wadis towards the
Libyan border and has a stark and unique beauty all of its own
Day 6: Gilf Plateau
We continue on the top of the great plateau with stunning open
vistas, twisting dunes, small peaks and extinct volcanoes all
around us and aim for our camp near the top of the legendary
Aqabat Pass; the only route down to the plains beyond.
Day 7: Wadi Sura
After the descent of Aqabat we head for Wadi Sura to look at
the prehistoric rock art in the mysterious Cave of the Swimmers
made famous by Count Almasy, ‘The English Patient’. We then
explore the newly discovered Foggini Cave with hundreds of
painted figures, animals and the emotive hand marks of ancient
artists. We camp well away from these ancient sites.
Day 8: Uweinat
Today we head south for the great mountain of Uweinat, the
oldest rock in Africa. Straddling Egypt, Libya and the Sudan,
Uweinat has natural springs and is a contender for the legend of
the lost oasis. Overnight camp
Day 9: Karkur Tahl
We have all day to survey Acacia Valley and discover other
wadis containing an extraordinary wealth of engravings,
paintings and drawings spanning thousands of years, so different
from the art of the Gilf and just as awe inspiring. Overnight
camp
Day 10: Eight Bells
We set course around the southern foot of the Gilf Kebir
paying homage at the monument to the great explorer Prince Kemal
el-Din and investigate the WWII air strip at Eight Bells before
setting camp
Day 11: Abu Ballas
We pass out of the great desert dunes by an eerie field of mud
lions and reach Abu Ballas, a hill littered with the remains of
ancient pots. Another night under the desert stars
Day 12: Dakhla oasis
This morning we return to asphalt roads, beds, showers and
beer as we head to our hotel the eco friendly Desert Lodge in
Dakhla Oasis for a well earned rest
Day 13: El Qasr
We take a full day to relax in this, the most beautiful of all
the oases. We visit the temple of Deir el Hagar and the well
preserved medieval town of El Qasr
Day 14: White Desert
Morning drive to Chennai airport to Summer Rate board flight for onward
destination. End of our services…….
Day 15: White Desert - Wadi Hitan whale valley
After breakfast, we a head off road to Valley of the Whales
where we can see Zeuglodon fossils and sharks teeth and mangrove
all in the sand! sleep in tents under the stars
Day 16: Wadi Hitan whale valley - Cairo
After breakfast, transfer back to the hotel in Cairo
Day 17: Departure from Cairo
Transfer to the airport in Cairo and return flight
